Umbrella insurance · Chandler, AZ

When a claim goes past your liability limits, an umbrella adds the next layer.

Umbrella insurance is extra liability coverage above your auto and home policies. Our agents read the liability limits on your current policies and tell you plainly whether you need one.

What does umbrella insurance cover?

A serious accident can lead to a lawsuit bigger than the liability limit on your auto or home policy. Past that limit, those policies stop paying.

An umbrella can help pay covered costs from there, up to its own limit, depending on its terms and exclusions. That can help protect your assets and your future wages.

How it works

Your policies pay first. The umbrella can pay next.

  1. 01

Up to your auto or home limit.

A covered claim goes to the liability on your auto, home or renters policy first. It pays up to the limit shown on your declarations page.

  2. 02

Above it, up to the umbrella’s limit.

Covered costs past that limit can go to your umbrella, up to its own limit.

  3. 03

It can apply when you travel.

Coverage can apply even when you’re out of the country. It can also help with wages you lose to a court appearance.

Questions

Umbrella insurance questions, answered.

I already have auto and home insurance. Why add an umbrella?

Two reasons. You could be sued for more than those policies’ liability limits, and they often don’t cover personal injury claims like libel, slander or false arrest. An umbrella can help with both, depending on its terms, limits and exclusions.

Do I need my auto or home insurance with you first?

Usually. Allstate generally requires an Allstate auto or property policy underneath, with certain minimum liability limits. If your limits are lower today, we’ll quote the higher limits before you decide.

How much umbrella coverage do I need?

It depends on what you own, what you earn and who lives with you. We’ll go over your savings, home equity and income with you, then show the umbrella limits available side by side.

I rent. Is an umbrella still worth it?

It can be. Not owning a home won’t stop someone from suing you after an accident. An umbrella can sit on top of a renters policy and your auto policy.

Who in my house can an umbrella include?

You and your spouse, anyone named on the policy declarations, and any relative or dependent who lives with you, which can include a teen driver. Your policy’s terms list exactly who it includes.

What do I need for an umbrella quote?

Your auto and home or renters declarations pages, since they show the liability limits an umbrella sits on. It also helps to tell us who lives with you, who drives, and about any pool, rental, boat or RV. With those handy, one short call gets you real numbers.
